Lock washers are securing elements similar in shape to a disc spring. They have helical toothing on the upper and lower side. When the washer is placed under the head of the bolt or under the nut, the force is distributed over a larger area and protects the surface of the component. The force connection is optimised. The helical teeth bite into the mating surface, creating a reliable form fit. In addition to the preload force, it may be necessary to consider securing the connection against unscrewing itself and coming loose, depending on the application.
